There’s no exact rule here, as it depends on what you need from a website.

I will build your new website in collaboration with you and I’ll ask a lot of questions! This will form your requirements; what pages you need, what functionality and how the website flows.

Though no matter what your individual requirements are, all websites I build will have the following:

How I build websites

Why WordPress

All of the websites I create are built on WordPress. Why? Because it is the best open-source content management system (CMS) around and currently powers over 34% of all websites on the Internet (wow!). It is constantly being developed, improved and strengthened by developers from all over the world.

But what makes WordPress truly great is its flexibility and ability to be customised, rather quickly compared to traditional website development.

WordPress also allows you, the website owner, to make changes to content, add blog posts and more if needed though an intuitive and easy to use interface.

All of my custom website builds include a 30 min tour of the dashboard once the website has been launched. If you want to free up your time for other more important things you can add website edits and changes to your Website Care program where I will take care of any changes or updates you need. What about

SEO

You may have heard the term SEO before. If you are wondering what it is, it stands for Search Engine Optimisation. As simply as possible, SEO is the process of increasing the visibility of a website in a search engine such as Google.

I am not an SEO professional, but I do have a background working in and around the SEO field. In my opinion all website designers, consultants and strategists should understand and implement SEO best practices.

For all new website projects, SEO is a fundamental part of planning and development. During the Discovery and Sitemap Phases (see my website process) I will work with you to optimise your content for SEO, come up with page titles and descriptions and plan the best website structure.

If you are having a website redesign I will look at what parts of your website are generating traffic and have rankings in Google. With this data together we will be able to decide on what content and pages need to stay, what should change and what can go as needed.

During a website build and launch I adhere to SEO best practices. This includes using correctly formatted code and structure, correctly naming and tagging images and connecting your website to Google Analytics and Search Console (formerly Webmaster Tools). And if you are on my Website Care & Hosting program your website will benefit from the use of a premium SEO plugin and optimisations for speed (Google likes websites that load fast).

No one working with SEO, even SEO professionals, can guarantee that changes to your website won’t have a negative effect in Google. But by working with a website consultant who understands and follows SEO guidelines the plan is to minimise any negative effects while maximising the long term positive effects.
